Show Stopper - Russian Beauty Kurylenko

By Rollo Tomasi
Olga KurylenkoBorn in the small Ukraine port town of Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov, Olga Kostyantynivna Kurylenko has opened to rave reviews as what some deem the definitive femme fatale of the 007 movie franchise. As sexy, hard boiled yet vulnerable Bond Girl Camille in the Sony blockbuster release Quantum of Solace, Olga’s career path is the narrative of a true Cinderella fairytale.

Following a childhood of abject poverty, Olga was discovered by a model scout in the Moscow subway at age 16. At 17 she found herself with a lucrative modeling contract in Paris where she learned to speak French in only six months.

She has since graced the covers of Madame Figaro, Elle, Vogue and Marie Claire.

Search Olga’s luscious childlike face, liquid green eyes, the street smart yet innocent demeanor, and you have a archetype Ukraine women…such as those that proliferate the streets, cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs of any city in Russia or Ukraine.

This writer is struck by the similarities in Olga’s performance and the beauty, speech and attitude of several friends in Odessa. The parallel in bloodlines is uncanny…the beauty of these specimens is mind bending.

Although Olga has modeled for numerous magazines and respected clothing labels, she still considers herself just a talented Ukrainian girl with uncomplicated tastes from a simple family. She feels her inner world has not changed even with the breakthroughs in her life. Her profound beauty and success has not altered the human qualities that reflect who she is and where she comes from. Indeed she prefers to be critiqued for her acting ability and not her obvious stunning beauty.

Like many extraordinary Eastern women, they prefer to be noticed for their inner beauty as well as their physical charm.

Since her debut in L’ Annulaire (2005), Olga has appeared opposite Elijah Wood in Paris, je t’aime (2006) and in Le Serpent (2006), both critically acclaimed films. She can also be seen in the recent movie version of Max Payne and current release Tyranny.

Olga’s cinematic roles have been notoriously steamy. Her mother Marina says she is not embarrassed by her daughter’s choice of risque’ nude roles… “I always appreciate the beauty of the human body.” We tend to agree with Mama…
