Ambitious Beginnings
Little is known of Dasha Astafieva who was born in the Ukraine in 1985 and grew up in the years after the fall of the Soviet Union. Growing up, Dasha’s major aspirations included a burning desire to support her family through tough times.
In 1994 Dasha picked up a copy of Playboy and was astonished at how beautiful a woman can be. It was then that the precocious 9 year old decided she wanted, among her other ambitions, to pose for Playboy, as she felt that the magazine and lifestyle promoted a healthy and attractive sexuality. That power of suggestion kicked in and Dasha began a modeling career in 2003 at age 18. In 2005 Dasha won the top prize in the Ukranian reality show Stars Factory.Two years later after being spotted by a Playboy scout in Kiev she was featured in the pages of Ukranian Playboy as its Playmate of the Year.
She was recently chosen as Miss January 2009, Playboy’s 55th Anniversary Playmate, which hit newsstands on December 12th, 2008. The stunning beauty takes the title very seriously as she feels it’s a great responsibility that reflects directly on her country where she’s now somewhat of a national celebrity. This new found fame has come with a serious fan base of young Ukrainians from Dasha’s part in the pop music group NikitA which she explains was formed with the idea in mind to exude an “aggressive sexual energy”.
Dasha attributes her new found international success to her natural qualities of indigenous Ukraine beauty and innocence. A departure from the stereotypical blond bombshell that has come to be identified with the Playboy stable of playmates, Dasha is serious brunette.
