Tall smoldering young Russian Irina Sheik was born Irina Shaykhlislamova (say that while looking at the above shot of her) on January 6, 1986 in Yemanzhelinsk, Russia, a coal mining community on the eastern slopes of the Urals. She is sometimes credited as Irina Shayk.
With a burgeoning career as a top fashion model, Irina was discovered on a train by a fashion executive while on a lengthy three-day trip from her home town to Moscow for holiday. The chance encounter encouraged Irina to pursue a modeling career and in 2004, with a body built for sin and a mind created for business, she signed to her first agency, Traffic Models, who also represented fellow Russian supermodel Natasha Poly.
Irina appeared in her first magazine in May 2005, gracing the cover of Annabelle in Germany. Then on a tear, she appeared the following month on the cover of Bolero in Switzerland, then the cover of Jalouse in Greece.
Her body maturing and her career gaining momentum, Sheik appeared in the 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue as one of the 2007 Rookies and also made an appearance in the 2008 edition.
Also in 2008, she starred in a photo story for the song single Diamond Girl produced by rapper/producer Ryan Leslie who, so taken with Irina, also produced a song dedicated to her entitled I-R-I-N-A, which he produced to break the ice on the set of Diamond Girl, as he didn’t speak Russian.
Sheik is the face, lips, eyes, legs and skin of the world wide campaigns for Italian intimate wear giant Intimissimi (2007, 2008), Guess 2008 and Spanish skin care conglom Germaine de Capuccini 2009. She has also been featured in ads for Lacoste and Martini.
Irina’s star rose higher in 2007, with her debut in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and again in 2008 and 2009. The well-thumbed publication is routinely read by millions of men around the world, and her inclusion insured a surefire carnal hit.
