The Two Sofias - Sofia Rudieva

Nubile young Russian beauty queen and model Sofia Rudieva hoped to put controversy to bed as she stepped into the limelight of the Miss Universe 2009 pageant in the Bahamas.

The event, which took place on August 23rd at Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau was the first time the vivacious rising Russian star had been in the glare of publicity since the revelation of compromising photos taken early in her budding career.

Born November 1990 into a family of artists from St Petersburg, the delicious Miss Russia 2009 was always destined for a creative career on the world stage. Her unique upbringing meant that she first studied art and acting which gave her an inventive instinct for sensual presentation. But as she blossomed into a spectacular young woman it was dazzlingly clear that a career in modeling was in the cards.

With growing poise and self-assurance Sofia was signed by a Czech modeling agency at the tender age of 15. Having graduated from high school in 2008 and with several years in the fashion business under her trim belt, the beguiling black-haired temptress was destined for a date with destiny at the Miss Russia 2009 competition.

In March 2009 she stormed to victory in a series of super confident displays of elegance and beauty. The judges were impressed by the beauty and grace of her 5ft 10’ frame, her natural style and exquisite charm in all rounds of the contest. With the world at her feet, the prize and glory were hers as she won an army of new admirers.

The Photos
Almost as quickly as she gained the adoration of both judges and fans, Sofia’s career was thrown into turmoil by the allegation that she’d posed for nude, albeit tasteful photos. Heating up the scandal, an international glamour website confirmed the story by publishing a series of artistic pictures of her sans wardrobe.

The Russian media jumped on the bandwagon questioning her position as Miss Russia 2009. The pictures of her it turns out are amazing.

In the days that followed the salacious news, Sofia went into seclusion in Sweden under the auspices of preparing for the Miss Universe 2009 competition. At first she was defiant at the news of the spicy photo shoot…“Yes, I participated in nude photography. But it is my job. It’s not pornography,” she said. But as interest in her part time activities grew she took a more conciliatory tone telling the press “I didn’t know the purpose of the pictures and its consequences.” not further returning either calls or emails but continuing her focus on the upcoming Miss Universe title.

Her strategy seems to have worked as she has just taken part in the glittering Miss Universe 2009 competition proudly representing Russia and using her experience to make her more resilient. Just before the event she said “Russian women are strong in spirit. They can be both very strong and energetic on the one hand and tender and sweet wives and caring mothers on the other.”

She trained hard for the event with more physical workouts and extra coaching in modeling and acting together with lessons to improve her already fluent English.

Miss Universe 2009 saw Sofia go up against 84 international beauties including Kristina Kots-Gotlib (Miss Ukraine) and Lika Orjonikidze (Miss Georgia). The event featured a scintillating succession of stylish rounds including evening gowns, swimwear, national costumes and a fashion show.

Sofia didn’t place. But as we all know, if Russia can’t get in the front door, she’ll eventually find a way in. Anastasia Today is happy to report that in a prime example of Russian persistence and spawn, the newly crowned Miss Universe, Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela, has documented ancestry from both Russia and Ukraine in addition to being an exemplary specimen of Slavic beauty.
